Preparing Placenta Smoothies for Clients

As a placenta encapsulation 'specialist' who's certified in both Ohio Food Handler's Safety and Bloodborne Pathogens, I've prepared quite a few placentas to be consumed by the postpartum mother. Placentas offer several components that may be beneficial to the mother's healing body.
Of over 4000 species of placental mammals, only a handful do not regularly practice placentophagy (consumption of placenta) - including modern humans. But humans do have a history of consuming their placentas, as read in numerous historical recordings.
My personal favorite way to prepare placentas is in a smoothie, as I find it more aligned with our mammalian instincts. Instead of dehydrating the placenta, it's consumed raw while mixed with organic super foods delicately chosen to promote healing and balance.
Once baby is born and the parents are ready to separate the placentababy, I take the placenta to their kitchen to prepare mother's placenta smoothies. While they are bonding with their precious new family member, I'm quietly tucked in the kitchen rinsing, removing membranes, cutting the meat into small pieces, and crafting individual smoothie blend bags with one piece of placenta in each. And then I blend one up for mom to drink right there, and place the individual smoothie bags in the freezer for the family to quickly and easily grab and blend during her postpartum healing.
While my clients have multiple smoothie recipes to choose from, this was my favorite blend during my most recent postpartum experience:
- 2 cups of frozen organic strawberries
- 2 cups of organic berry juice
- 1 banana
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 teaspoons flaxseed
- A light handful of spinach
- A 1 inch placenta piece
